TWO GALS
One Mission
Name of Event: Vermont City Half Marathon
Date of Event: May 29th, 2016!!
My father, Skip Whelsky, like many dads, was an absolute inspiration.
About three years ago my father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I watched how the disease progressed and how hard it was to see him struggle with simple tasks, like eating. I watched how suddenly aware and nervous he became about how he was viewed in public. My dad was an incredibly kind, brave, happy guy, and he pushed to not let Parkinson’s bring him down. He loved his kids, his wife, old friends and family, Wheel of Fortune, sea food, a good laugh, horseshoes and mostly, I remember my dad being the kind of guy that really appreciated the good moments and never failed to tell you how much he loved you. This kind of brightness that can exist in a person is rare but it is something to strive for because, no matter what age you are, life is too short to take for granted and I truly believe he never did. This past November I lost my dad after he became very ill. It was a terrible process to see and I miss him each and every day. After he passed I have had one goal in mind: motivated by him I started training for my first full marathon and want to dedicate my run to raising money for Parkinson's research in his name. I hope you will consider helping me in my mission!
I am aiming to raise at least a grand, but would love to do even better! Every little bit can make a difference!
